Uploading Cover Images in Evergreen

Library staff can upload cover images to the NOBLE Evergreen system in the following circumstances:

Uploading a new image requires library directors to request that NOBLE adds a new permission to the staff account, and that the staff member has a brief training session on the procedure. Each library's designated cataloging representative has already been granted this permission. Uploading the New Image

This example shows a cover image with two problems. It's a placeholder image for a book that has already been published, and it has the wrong title.

Here's what this looks like in a carousel:

Here's what it looks like in the staff client:

The first step is to find an acceptable image for this record. Cover images may come from Google Books, Amazon, or other bookseller or publisher sites, and the image must have a width of at least 475 px.

Using Google Books as a Cover Image Source

In Google Books, you may go to search results or directly to the record with a large version of the cover image almost filling the screen. If you are in search results, selecting Preview will open the large version of the cover image.

Preview:

From the Preview, use the right mouse button and choose Open Image in New Tab. The new tab will have the file name and the width and height of the image – if the tab is too narrow to show the size, hover over it to see the information and the cover image.

If the image meets our standards (minimum width 475) you can use the right mouse button and choose Save Image As… to save the image on your computer. You can rename it to a short version of the title or whatever is convenient, the file name will be changed to the record number when you upload it.

Using Amazon as a Cover Image Source

Find the record on Amazon

From the cover image, use the right mouse button and choose Open Image in New Tab. The new tab will have the file name and the width and height of the image – if the tab is too narrow to show this, hover over it to see the information and the cover image. If the image meets our standards (minimum width 475) you can use the right mouse button and choose Save Image As… to save the image on your computer. You can rename it to a short version of the title or whatever is convenient, the file name will be changed to the record number when you upload it.

Uploading the Cover Image

This is the easy part! Go to the record in the new staff catalog, open the Other Actions dropdown, and choose Upload Cover Image.

Click on the Choose File button, find the replacement image on your computer and click on Upload Cover Image. Evergreen will rename the image file to match the Record ID, and will make the different size images used in different places in the display. The new file should be visible right away – if it's not, you may need to reload the page or clear the cache.

Filling Out the Form

Cover Image Problems – The last step is to fill out this form, which we use to maintain statistics on how the option to upload new cover images is working out,and to communicate with our vendor on cover image problems.

The first question the form asks for is the Record ID, which can be found in the Summary of the record, shown here outlined in red. The Database is often, but not always, the same as the TCN. so be sure to select the right number.

The Record ID can also be found in the record URL in both the staff and public catalog, always right after /record/

Here are two examples showing the relevant part of the URL:

Staff Catalog: https://evergreen.noblenet.org/eg2/en-US/staff/catalog/record/5131386

Public Catalog: https://reading.noblenet.org/eg/opac/record/5131386

The other questions, all required, ask for the title of the book (CD audiobook, etc.), what the problem was (Missing image, wrong image, etc.), whether or not you uploaded a replacement image, and your name and library.
